Find of the Week - Picknick - Rorstrand, Sweden

No collection of retro pottery would be complete without at least a few pieces of this Rorstrand ware from Sweden. This lovely casserole is from the "PICKNICK" range by Rorstrand of Sweden. It was designed my Marianne Westman, who won prizes for this series at the Milan Triennales in 1954, 1957 ,1960. The series continued until well into the 1960's. It is a large range, and all pieces have lovely handpainted drawings of food on them. These pieces last extremely well and tend not to get any crazing. I managed to find this piece in a box of oddments, mainly of German china  - at my weekly auction. I'm surprised no one else noticed it!

Every 50's collector needs a piece of Marianne Westman's work. The shape and design of these pieces is timeless - If you didn't know better you would think they were modern designs.  I've seen other colours in this design before, but never this one which is in lovely fresh greens with drawing of peas and pea pods. Imagine a whole set of it.....
