Auction Find - Jorgen Mogensen Bird Series

A few weeks ago I did a post on Jorgen Mogensen. Danish Potter and Sculptor. I found two more beautiful pieces to add to my growing Jorgen Mogensen collection, at Auction this week.

Both of these pieces are from the late 1950's during his time at Royal Copenhagen. The jar has his often used stylised geometric"bird" motif, and the bowl has another bird motif - this time a bit more recognisable - emus!
The designs have an almost "Aztec" feel about them.

Mogensen's work is not for everyone but I just love the textural and sculptural qualities of his work in addition to the wonderful "feel" of each piece. His work is all quite solid and weighty by design, and faultless in execution.  The urn or jar is quite a large 22cm tall, and the bowl about 27cm diameter.
