I have been trying to find out more about Axella Pottery from Denmark for a while, but havent got far. Like many potteries there seems to be little documented about its history. Most of the work from Axella has a really distincitve character and glaze, and as far as I have seen is all high fired stoneware (Stentoj). Thankfully, all Axella that I have seen is easily identified as it is well stamped.
I have found that it closed in 1988, but couldnt find out when it openend. Most pieces I have come across seem to be from around the 1960's to early 1980's going by their style and glazes. The pottery was located in the small town of Norresundby in Denmark and I did manage to find out that Jens Jensen, and Jette Helleroe both worked there for a period.
This beautifully shaped and glazed bottle is a piece I have by Axella, which I have just got to list on eBay. I love the colour runs and combination of earthy colours on it - reminds me so much of when I learned pottery at Art School.
