Its been an odd week buying...things I thought I would get easily (like the Czech pottery) I didn't, and other things I didn't expect to, I got easily.... Like this wonderful Soholm Stoneware Vase or Feature piece.
It is a large and heavy studio piece, (over 40cm tall) and instantly recognisable as Soholm with its lovely subtle glaze, and sgraffito decoration.
It doesnt have a makers initial, but I am pretty sure it is an Einar Johansen piece, as I have one quite similar (picture below it) with the EJ signature. The series is from the 1960s when they produced quite a bit of this lovely hand thrown stoneware.

They are all lovely but the last one is my favourite! It's the combination of raw clay with the sgraffito and glazed lip, perfectly balanced.
ReplyDeleteYes it is a beautifully balanced design. Always drawn to these hand thrown pieces.
