Auction Watch 38

There are quite a few lots coming up this week - but little in the way of pottery or china disappointingly. There seems to be ever increasing amount of vintage tins every week, and they still seem to maintain their prices. Here is a pick of some of the things that took my eye:

Arnott's biscuits, from when biscuits were sold
loose from a tin by weight
- an Australian Icon (although now U.S. owned I believe)

I like the design of this tin - must be pre WW2 I think.

Domay Australia - Retro pieces in a wooden tray - love the design.

A great 1930s or 40s font on these tin canisters

Bakelite canisters, in good condition, quite a good colour combination

A very elegant looking depression glass vase - I prefer this colour to the
plain amber that you can often find.

These pressed glass butter dishes are great. My mother used to keep one of these in
the refrigerator with pickled beetroot all summer.

Vintage Sunbeam Iron in original box

Classic 1970s post and rail furniture - the description for
this lot says :

"Rare Post & Rail The Investment dining table with six chairs
upholstered in Alpaca suede and leather (purchased in 1975 $6,000)"

I think they paid a bit much!? - that was about 1/4  the price
of a new house at the time

-estimated to sell at $300-$500

  1. I'm absolutely digging the dining setting. I'd fair dinkum throw a party if I could get that for $500.00 bucks. I laugh at the $6000.00. Maybe that's just a overly-fond owner who's bordering on dementia. Though, alpaca leather? I've never heard of that before ... maybe it's v. exclusive.

    1. Yes, Alpaca leather must have been one of those 1970's "grow money" things that never took off. Looks like the furniture will last forever though!
