I wasn't really focused enough when bidding for items at auction this week, and missed out on some of the lots I planned to buy, but managed to pick up others I hadn't planned on - so it all evened out.
One group I couldn't resist though, was this beautiful set of Noritake Harlequin demitasse coffee cups c1953. I just love the strong colours and the lusciously thick glaze on this design - also Noritake is one of the few makers who used gold without having it look tacky - to my mind - even with their totally gold glazed pieces - to me it is just the right hue.
There are a few colours I haven't seen from this range even though quite a few pieces of this have passed through my shop....I really love the black...but it is amazing how well they all go together in different combinations. Something about them also reminds me of children's painted woooden building blocks from the same era - must be all those primary and secondary colours!

This set is magical. I was curious about it when you had it in the auction photos, I never imagined they were this wonderful. Kudos to you for getting them.
ReplyDeleteThanks - Magical aren't they!
