Arabia Finland, Gunvor Olin Gronqvist, Fructus

One Auction down, one to go. I was the lucky buyer of this beautiful piece of Arabia Finland. A huge (33cm) platter by Gunvor Olin Gronqvist from the "Fructus" series. Gronqvist started with Arabia in the mid 1950's - I think this design is from just after that date - which pre-dates patterns like Valencia.

You more commonly see the brown and black version of this design, and this intensely dark and very saturated violet-blue is much rarer than the brown. Apparently there is a lighter blue as well but I have never seen that.

    1. Hi Pippa... yes It has that instagram/modernist feel about it I think....reminds me also of the Royal Copenhagen Fruit design by J. Gerber around the same time.

    1. Thanks Tove....great blog you have too! - The piece of C.O.B. you posted on Sept.8 - I had a piece like this which I just sold...almost identical. I have never been able to find out about the pottery either...but mine did have a label from Illums so it must have been areasonably significant pottery.
