Jens Quistgaard Rune Design

I didn't have a lot of success at an auction today, not getting what I had planned to except for 2 items out of about 10....so on the way home I thought I would call into a local "antique" store - not expecting to find much - and came out with a large box full of goodies!! which I will share over the next week or so before most of them go up for sale.

The biggest surprise was when I saw this group of Cups, Saucers and Plates sitting in a dark corner of the very back room - I thought "no, they couldn't be", but YES they were.  A set in the "Rune"design by Jens Quistgaard, for Kronjyden Nissen in the early 1960s and then continued on by Bing & Grondahl when they bought the company out.

This is a design I have been wanting to find for ages just to see what it was like in real life....and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Just look at those beautifully subtle green and sand shadings of the masterful glaze, combined with a simple, stylish and typically Quistgaard pattern.

Update: Dana in the commment below jogged my memory about a fantastic video about Jens Quistgaard I havent yet seen....will have to buy it I think as I doubt it will ever be on TV here. I found the link to the official site for the Jens Quistgaard documentary "A saucepan for my Wife" where the image below is from. Click HERE to go there - it has a lot of information even if you just want to have a look at his works.

    1. Yes he sure was. I didnt realise until today there was also a chocolate brown colour in the Azur pattern, very luxurious looking :)
