I began my career as an Art Teacher in the late 1970s, after having studied at what is now the University of South Australia. I taught Art & Design, Ceramics, and Art History to both secondary school and adult students for a number of years before following another creative interest in food. My main passion however, has always been Ceramics - whether writing about it, making it or collecting it.
Since 2009 I have been writing this blog which has become an online reference point for vintage and retro ceramics - specialising in Mid-20th-Century ceramics. There are comprehensive image libraries and "fact files" with multiple postings every week. Follow the index on the left hand side to find all posts relating to particular topics.
I also run an eBay store and two shops on Etsy dealing in Retro & Vintage 20th Century Ceramics, and studio pottery. Links above and in the right hand column. Many of the items I write about here can be found in the stores.
BUYING
If you are in Australia, I am always interested in purchasing quality vintage ceramics - particularly Dybdahl, Antique Noritake, Midwinter, Denby, San Marino, Fratelli Fanciullacci, Rorstrand, Figgjo, Arabia, Royal Copenhagen and most Scandinavian makers. (International postage is usually to expensive to buy any quantities for resale unless a rare single piece)
CONTACTING ME:
You can contact me via < craftedbydesign at outlook dot com> or by leaving a comment on the blog if you have web presence. Sorry I don't offer a valuation service - prices from city to city and country to country, and are very time relative.....simply - prices are just too variable.
I get emails every day from people trying to identify pottery (mainly Danish due to the content of this blog). I am able to identify about 70% of them, however no promises. If you do send photos - make sure an image of the base of the piece is included.
Preference is given to those people who have made a small donation beforehand - as even the simplest and fastest response still takes about 20 minutes to put together.
And Finally...
I have a number of web presences...and you can see them all from HERE.
